Welcome to 1st Pontnewydd Scout Group.

At 1st Pontnewydd scout group we aim to provide a balanced programme of development for young people aged between 6 and 14.

What is scouting?

Scouting is the largest youth organisation in the world, it has over 28 million members in
216 countries and territories.

Scouting was started in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell to provide young people with the chance
to participate in challenges, activities and adventures that they would not normally have had.
Scouting has evolved over the years to meet the demands and changes in todays society and the
world in general, but it still maintains its original ideas and core ideas.

What is scouting in the 21st Century?

Scouting today provides challenges for those aged 6 to 25 regardless of gender or religion.
Todays scouting is all about fun with a purpose... challenging yourself physically and mentally
so that you achieve your full potential and become a better member of society.

Team work, communication, problem solving, the ability to think on your feet and practicality are
skills that are required in todays society and workplaces. Scouts go on to achieve great things!

What do scouts actually do?

We believe you will achieve the most when you are learning by doing. Facing challenges, overcoming fears, solving problems, responsibilities, working in teams or on your own and being able to assess risks and think for yourself will help you achieve you potential.

We offer a huge range of activities and experiences to suit all ages, abilities and interests including:

Badges - Scouting still awards badges for achievements, you need something to show for all that effort! Badges provide an incentive to take on the challenge and to show others the skills you have. We still have traditional badges such as survival and bushcraft, cooking on open fires and navigation but we also have modern badges such as the global awareness, I.T and street sports badges.

Outdoors - putting the outing back in to scouting! The freedom and challenges of the outdoors provide the best memories and experiences that you can take in to  adulthood. They provide an entire play ground (for all ages) ready to be explored and conquered! Whether your a beaver sleeping away from home for the first time or to a scout climbing snowdon or everest there are opportunities to be had!

International - Scouting is just in Wales! We encourage you to meet other members from the global community. Scouting provides opportunities for travel abroad to international events and camps. The sky and your ambition are the limits!

Service to the community - be proud of your community and dont just use and abuse it. Scouts undertake projects in the local community and take pride in where they live. We are involved in events, local environmental projects and building camp sites.
