1st pontnewydd home of the PIGG
Pontnewydd Integrated Go-anywhere Gadget!
1st pontnewydd is the home of the Pontnewydd Integrated Go-anywhere Gadget (PIGG). The 1984 Landrover Defender 110 has been transformed in to an ultimate scouting vehicle.
What is the PIGG used for?
The PIGG is the ulitimate support vehicle. It can seat 10 scouts, 2 leaders, carry kit on the roof and tow a heavy trailer. It can pretty much go anywhere. We use it primarily for carry kit and getting to camp sites that cars cannot reach - this is useful for the dragon award.
History of the PIGG
The PIGG was bought in April 2008, it is a 1984 Defender 110. It was in need of some minor repairs but is in very good shape.
After being bought on ebay it had to be driven over 300 miles to get it back to sunny south Wales. This was a test of it as who knew it would actually make it! This was the 1st Pont leaders version of a Top Gear road trip. We drove up and had to use radios to keep in touch on the way back. Gareth being most upset because he was over taken by every lorry on the road - didn't bother me as the PIGG will only do 50mph!
We spent the next month quickly tidying it up and getting her ready for the MOT, which it passed first time. Thanks to Steve for his expertise and time. We spent a fair bit of time cleaning, preparing and sorting her out.
After some use, one of the parents, Terri decided that she could help pimp the PIGG. She took it off us and down to A2B taxis and Gwent Vehicle Repairs. Terri, Les and Mark took on the PIGG and wouldn't let us see it until it was finished!
The PIGG had a full respray, bench seats in the back, checker plating, valet, steering and other bits replaced. And also sign writing courtesy of Steve at Casino Events. The effect is amazing!
